      March 3th is DOLL FESTIVAL.

We also call it "Momo no sekku".

      Momo means peach tree.

      Sekku means seasonal festival.

Peach blossoms bloom in this season.

      The name comes from that.

Doll Festival is a girl's event and the GIRL'S DAY!

This is a traditional display of dolls, "Hina".

      Hina means little doll.

      There are 5 stairs.

      They represent the imperial palace.

Their clothings are style of Heian-period,

      8 century.

On the top stair of it, there is a pair of Hinas.

These dolls represent emperor and empress, or prince and princess.

On the second steps, there are 3 court ladies.

On the third ones, there are 5 court musicians.

They play the ancient Japanese traditional music, Gagaku, instrument.

The below of it, there are ministers.

On the last step, there are 3 court men.
